The registration deadline is as follows:
1 September for the autumn semester
1 February for the spring semester
Postponed exams take place in:
Week 40 / 41 for the autumn semester
Week 8 / 9 for the spring semester
Exact dates will be posted in Studentweb closer to the exam.
How do I register for a new exam?
You register for the postponed exam in StudentWeb. Find the relevant course under 'Results' or 'My active courses' and select 'Retake the course'.
If the course consists of more than one exam and you only wish to retake certain parts, you must remember to withdraw from the part you do not wish to retake.
I withdrew before the exam took place
This does not count as an attempt, but you must wait to take the exam until the next time the course is taught.
I didn't show up to the exam
This counts as an attempt, and you must wait to take the exam until the next time the course is taught.
I was withdrawn from the exam due to non-approval of exam requirements
You cannot take the exam until the next time this course is taught, and you get your work requirements approved.
I was sick on the day of the exam
You can register for the postponed exam when you see under your results in Studentweb that the medical certificate has been registered.
I showed up to the exam, but withdrew during the exam
This is considered failing the exam. You will be able to register for the postponed exam.
I completed the exam, but did not pass
You will be able to register for a postponed exam.
I got a bad grade on the exam
You can register for a postponed exam. But the exam will only be scheduled if at least one other student failed, was ill or withdrew during the exam. If this doesn't happen, you will receive an email the day after the registration deadline.
I have appealed my result, but the assessment is delayed
It is recommended to sign up for a postponed exam regardless. If you are satisfied with the outcome of the appeal, you can then withdraw your registration.
I have used three exam attempts
A candidate cannot sit for an exam in the same course more than three times (courses with equivalent academic content are considered the same course). This applies even if you have been newly admitted to the program.
In special cases, UiA may grant dispensation for a fourth exam attempt upon application. The application must include a justification and any available documentation:

Exception: The number of attempts for practice is limited. It is only possible to complete each practical period twice. Withdrawal during practice will count as one of the two attempts..
Retaking courses after completing a study programme
Your study privileges will automatically expire once you have completed your study programme. If you wish to retake courses to improve your grades, you may have your study privileges extended during the following year after the completion of your degree. Please contact the Examinations Office to request an extension of your study privileges. After that academic year, you must contact the faculty to request access to courses, provided that the course is still being offered.

Exceptions for postponed / new exams:
- Courses that are offered every semester, such as ex.phil, do not have postponed exams.
- Portfolio exams that are not completed must, as a general rule, be retaken the next time the course is taught.
- If you have been on exchange, but have previously fulfilled the exam requirement in the course, you can gain access to a postponed exam if it is scheduled. Application should be made to eksamen@uia.no by 1 February.
- Law students have a specific retake quota within their respective study programs. Students enrolled in a three-year bachelor's program in law have the opportunity to retake up to three passed exams. For those participating in a two-year master's program in law, it is allowed to retake one passed exam, but this only applies to subjects included in the first year of study.
