Tips for finding accommodation

We have gathered information from partner universities and tips from previous exchange students on this page, which will be helpful when you are looking for accommodation.

Australia

Students are usually responsible for finding their own accommodation. Prices range from NOK 8,000-9,000 to NOK 13,000 per month (and you may have to share a room). Many choose to travel to their destination and then look for accommodation while staying in a hotel or an Airbnb apartment. This can be stressful, as viewings are often crowded, and many private landlords require a 6-month lease. Many students use Facebook groups to find private accommodation, as well as the website Flatmates (which lists properties across Australia). It is also possible to book "student housing" before you travel. Some of the providers include:

  • Brisbane (Queensland University of Technology): Many of our students have booked accommodation through StudentOne. Scape and Iglu are also popular options. The university also has its own pages with housing information.
  • Gold Coast (Bond University): Many of our students have booked accommodation at Varsity Towers. Bond University also has its own pages with housing information.
  • Sydney (University of New South Wales): Many students choose to book accommodation through Iglu or Scape.
  • Adelaide (University of South Australia og University of Adelaide): University of Adelaide has its own housing information where they refer students to student accommodation. Scape is also commonly used.
  • Townsville og Cairns (James Cook University): Most students live in student accommodation, and the university has its own page with housing information.

Canada

There are several institutions that do not offer student accommodation, meaning you will need to look on the private market. This can be stressful and challenging. If you have the opportunity to book a room through the university, it is recommended. You should expect to pay from NOK 8,000 and upwards for a room per month.

Denmark

Most universities do not offer guaranteed accommodation, but many provide a "roof over your head" guarantee. Regardless, it is a good idea to join the waiting list for student housing. It's also wise to check out various Facebook groups (e.g., "Norwegians in Copenhagen") as many students find accommodation through these channels.

France

Most students have to arrange their own accommodation, and many use Studapart for this. They offer housing throughout France.

In Paris, many Norwegian students apply to live in the Norwegian House, Maison De Norvège.

Many also rent accommodation through Airbnb.

Ireland

Most universities offer student accommodation, but they do not guarantee a place. It is important to apply for student housing before the deadline to be included in the room allocation process.

If you prefer to search for private accommodation, UniAcco and Airbnb can be alternatives.

After acceptance, universities will send out information about both student housing and private options.

Italy

Most universities ask students to find their own accommodation. Especially in large cities like Rome, Bologna, and Venice, this can be a bit challenging. Previous students have used websites like Cribmed and Airbnb to search for housing in these cities. Many students also use Facebook groups to look for accommodation.

We have agreements with a few universities that guarantee student housing, and information about this can be found on our agreement pages.

Netherlands

Some of our partner universities offer student accommodation, and it is important to apply for this within the given deadlines.

Many of our partners do not offer student housing but provide recommendations for private rental options. Finding private accommodation can be challenging, as many landlords require a minimum lease of 1 year. However, most students manage to secure either student housing or private rental accommodation before they depart.
