Accommodation

Finding accommodation in Bologna can be difficult and expensive. The university provides some information about housing through the SAIS service (Student Accommodation and Information Service).

Previous students have lived in dormitories and shared a room with others as rental prices are high.

Additional information

Be prepared for significant cultural differences between Norway and Italy. Lectures are often large and start at least 15 minutes later than the scheduled time, when the professor appears. This is known as the Italian academic quarter, and there are fewer breaks in class than in Norway.

As the university is so vast, you should expect to spend time figuring things out on your own, and it can often take time to get responses from staff.

English proficiency at the university and among fellow students is good, but in other parts of Italy and Bologna, there are far more people who do not speak English than in many other Western European countries. Therefore, it may be wise to know some Italian. The university offers language courses in Italian.

Please note that the autumn semester ends in late January, so it is best to stay for one year or only the spring semester.
