About the partner institution

California State University Northridge

California State University Northridge (CSUN) is located in the heart of San Fernando Valley, north of Los Angeles. With almost 40,000 students, the university campus is large and has many facilities. CSUN offers many different study programs that are suitable for students at UiA. CSUN's Business School is AACSB accredited.

The suburb of Northridge has around 60,000 residents and is located approximately 50 km north of downtown Los Angeles.

Available places: Unlimited number of tuition-paying spots

Requirements

You must be registered as a student at UiA and have completed a minimum of 60 credits before you go on exchange. In the description of your study programme, you will find more information about other possible requirements for applying for an exchange.

Credits and courses

Undergraduate students must take 15 units and graduate studens must take 12 units to earn 30 credits. See their course catalogue

The academic year

Autumn: August - December
Spring: January -  May

Tuition fees and scholarships

UiA has an agreement with Northridge that gives students a 10% discount on tuition fees. One semester with 15 units (bachelor's) and 12 units (master's) will then cost approximately USD 7200. This includes an application fee of USD 300 (prices for the 2023/2024 academic year).

Accommodation

There are opportunities for student housing if you apply early, but there is no guarantee. If you live in student housing, you are required to purchase a meal plan. It is also possible (and cheaper) to find private housing in the surrounding area. Public transportation in the area is not very good, and we do not recommend that students live in LA. See more about student housing here

Additional information

Exchange students apply through Tseng College and thereby gain access to all the study programs offered at the university, provided they meet the necessary admission requirements. Some courses, especially in economics and business, have limited capacity, and students may not always get their desired courses.

Insurance and health in the USA:

All students going on exchange to a US university must purchase American health insurance as recommended by the respective university. This is in addition to the insurance you have taken out in Norway/your home country. Insurance typically costs around USD 500-600, but it can be more expensive.

Some US universities require that international students can provide documentation of specific vaccinations, including diseases that are not common to vaccinate against in Norway.

You should expect to pay certain additional fees to the host university. These can cover services such as the gym, bus, and other facilities.

How to apply

Application deadlines:

  • 10 February for exchange in the autumn semester or full year exchange
