Table of contents

The course is connected to the following study programs

Teaching language

Norwegian/English

Recommended previous knowledge

BYG128 Structural Mechanics I, BYG228 Structural Mechanics II, BYG307 Structural Mechanics III, BYG308 Structural Design I - Concrete, or equivalent courses

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student is expected to:

  • have knowledge of the material properties of prestressing steel
  • have knowledge of the behaviour and practical execution of prestressed concrete in different types of structures
  • be able to design and verify that various types of prestressed concrete structures have sufficient capacity in serviceability and ultimate limit states
  • understand how prestressing works in different structural applications
  • understand the design basis for prestressed concrete structures
  • have knowledge of fibre types, material properties and structural behaviour of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC)
  • be able to design fibre reinforced concrete structures in accordance with NB 38 and the new Eurocode 2

Contents

The course consists of two topics: prestressed concrete and fibre-reinforced concrete.

  • Prestressed concrete: material properties, prestressing methods and structural behaviour
  • Design of prestressed concrete structures in the serviceability and ultimate limit states
  • Fibre reinforced concrete: material properties, fibre types and structural behaviour
  • Design of fibre reinforced concrete structures according to NB 38 and the forthcoming Eurocode 2
