- Faculty of Engineering and Science
- Course Leader:
- Michael Ruderman
- Lecture Semester:
- Autumn and Spring
- Duration:
- ½ year
Table of contents
The course is connected to the following study programs
Recommended previous knowledge
MAS601 or equivalent.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the successful student will have a sufficient understanding of generalized theory of AC electrical machines (dq-theory), enabling them to apply these principles in advanced control of induction motor drives; and have a sufficient understanding of mathematical formulations for static and quasistatic electromagnetic field problems, enabling them to apply these principles in analysis and design of certain mechatronic system components.
Contents
Part 1: Brief review of electromagnetic field theory and Maxwell’s equations. Formulations and solutions for selected static and quasistatic electromagnetic field problems.
Part 2: Lumped parameters and equivalent circuits modelling of electro-magneto-mechanical systems. Basics of rotating fields, dq-theory, DC, PMSM and induction motor drives.
Teaching and learning methods
Lectures, exercises and project work (individual or groups of 2-3 students).
Examination requirements
Approved project report.
Examinations
Oral examination. Pass/Fail.
Student evaluation
The course will be evaluated in accordance with the quality assurance system for education, chapter 4.1.
Offered as a free-standing course
Yes. Subject to availability or capacity.
