The course is connected to the following study programs

Teaching language

English

Recommended previous knowledge

Builds on the first-year courses of the Bachelor's programme in IT and Information Systems.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the students will

  • have knowledge of and practical experience with agile software development processes
  • be able to explain fundamental models and concepts for the analysis and design of information systems
  • be able to describe and discuss problem framing in systems analysis
  • be able to apply techniques for analysis and design
  • understand the role of information systems in organisations
  • be able to prepare documentation related to the system development process
  • have knowledge of ethical aspects in system development

Contents

The course provides an introduction to, and practice in, agile system development processes, as well as models, concepts, and tasks central to the analysis and design of information systems. Students work in teams to develop a report on their own analysis and design of an information system. In coordination with IS-201 and IS-202, students will also gain experience in how their analysis and design can be realised in practice.

Teaching and learning methods

The learning environment is organised as:

  • lectures
  • group-based analysis and design activities
  • supervision
  • sprint report presentations in quasi-professional settings
  • writing of project report

IS-200 is coordinated with IS-201 and IS-202; therefore students are advised to take these courses in the same semester. The estimated workload is 270 hours.

Examination requirements

Mandatory assignments must be approved, and participation in the required sprint reviews must be approved. Further information will be provided in Canvas at the start of the semester.
