• Apply interdisciplinary methodologies in collaborative group processes.

• Situate their own work and creative processes within the framework of interdisciplinary and contemporary artistic practices and theory.

Contents

This course provides an introduction to the practices of contemporary art through project-based work that spans various artistic disciplines. Students will gain experience in applying their own fine arts expertise in creative processes, performative practices, and interdisciplinary projects, while examining this expertise in relation to other art forms and contemporary artistic methodologies. A central premise of the course is contemporary artistic practice and theory that traverses multiple artistic fields. This approach introduces discourses, modes of expression, and aesthetic understandings that forge connections between diverse art practices and mediums. Traditional perspectives are challenged, and established norms are subjected to critical inquiry.

Teaching and learning methods

This course is workshop-based and introduces the field of contemporary art through various practical and artistic approaches. Active student participation is expected, manifested through project presentations and practical work. Instruction is delivered through a combination of practical teaching, workshops, and supervision. The workshops are facilitated by visual artists, performing artists, art educators, researchers, and other practitioners within the extended art field. Student work is primarily organized as group projects.

Certain components of the instruction are mandatory and will be made available on Canvas at the start of the semester.

The expected workload is 27 hours per credit.

Examination requirements

To be eligible to sit for the examination, students must:

• Attend all mandatory sessions (recorded as approved attendance).

• Successfully complete three workshops.

• Obtain approved participation in group project.
