This course aims at improving problem solving skills in model-based design, prototyping, control, instrumentation, and automation. The main task is to design a mechatronic system with a few degrees of freedom that can perform certain tasks. A prototype of the mechatronic system must be manufactured, assembled, and tested. Further, the prescribed tasks will involve the cooperation between the prototype of the mechatronic system and a commercial cooperative robot that is made available. This cooperation can be part of the testing of the prototype or part of the assembly/disassembly of the prototype.
Repeated themes within the project will be:
- Conceptualization and design of prototype mechatronic system (MS).
- Detailed design and manufacturing of one or more structurally critical details in the MS.
- Detailed design and choice of components for actuation of the MS.
- Development and programming of one or more robot operations of a cobot (assembly, testing, etc.) on the MS.
- Assembly of the MS and experimental verification of functionality.
The specific topic for the project is related to ongoing research and development projects in the department or to research problems from industry.
In addition to the project work, some lectures will be given in selected topics related to the problem to be solved.
The main part of the work will be in the form of project work, carried out in groups. A detailed project definition with clear goals will be given at the start of the course.
