Prerequisites
Learning outcomes
- have insight into the basic principles of different teaching methods such as flipped classrooms, inquiry and problem solving
- have insight into designing and using different types of problems in mathematics
- be able to analyse the use of digital teaching resources in mathematics such as spreadsheets, Geogebra, digital tablets and interactive boards, and reflect critically on their use
- have insight into learning theories, with an emphasis on socio-cultural theory and constructivism, the consequences these have for learning and teaching mathematics, and be able to use learning theory to support learning activities adapted to existing school curricula with special emphasis on Secondary School
- be familiar with various learning resources for use in mathematics teaching such as concrete materials, games and websites, and be able to analyse the use of them
- develop a project on mathematics education in connection with the school and analyse and discuss the project and disseminate insight from the project in writing and in presentations
Contents
Introduction to mathematics didactic research especially relevant for mathematics teaching on Secondary School. The course includes key aspects of learning and teaching mathematics. Learning theories, learning resources and teaching resources are central. Different ways of teaching, different types of tasks and digital tools are also a central part of the course. The course includes the development of a project on mathematics education in connection with the school.
The subject in practice
In practice, the student will gain experience in the use of various mathematical problems and teaching resources in mathematics and student-active teaching methods where the student will gain experience with different forms of assessment. In the project assignment, the student will do a research or development work where a chosen topic in mathematics is studied, analysed and discussed. The outcomes and insights are communicated orally and in writing.
