Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student shall:
- Obtain theoretical basis necessary for calculation of deformations of the building structures and characterization of material behaviour under multiaxial loading.
- Be able to calculate the displacements of beams, frames and trusses using unit force method
- Be able to use the force method to find reaction forces in simple statically indeterminate structures: beams, frames and trusses
- Be able to calculate shear stress distribution in a beam cross-section
- Be familial with effective stress concept (Tresca and von Mises yield criteria) for multiaxial stress state
- Be familiar with stress transformation and calculation of principle stresses
- Be able to estimate material strength in case of combined normal and shear stresses
