Prerequisites

At least 40 ECTS credits from the first year. Refer to criteria for selection of students for internships.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course, students should
  • have acquired insight into the activities in a translation agency
  • have gained knowledge of techniques and methods within translation and project management
  • be experienced in meeting deadlines, working in teams, prioritizing and working under pressure
  • have developed their English language skills
  • have gained insight into the culture and lifestyle in the relevant country

Contents

The internship comprises various aspects of the activities in a translation agency, both translation and other types of work undertaken in the agency related to translation.

Teaching and learning methods

Practical work under guidance of the host company and a coordinator at the University of Agder. Workload: approximately 810 hours.

Examination requirements

Students have to submit a report on a standard form to the coordinator at the University of Agder after the first and seventh weeks of the internship. A report should be submitted from the company confirming that students have fulfilled at least 80% of the attendance requirement.

Examinations

Students conclude their internship by writing a semester paper/reflective report in the relevant foreign language of approximately 4,500 words (15 pages). Assessment: pass/fail.

Student evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
