Teaching language
Norwegian.Course contents
The course deals with text, communication and language as system. Oral, written and multimodal texts will be studied, not only as they affect textual characteristics and structure but also how they function in use within various contexts. The linguistic system will be studied at the sound, word and sentence levels. While modern Norwegian is most closely studied, a comparative linguistic perspective is simultaneously maintained. Characteristics from the Norwegian language system are contrasted with Nordic languages as well as those from other parts of the world. In this manner the course provides the academic foundation necessary for describing our own language from a contrastive perspective and for understanding linguistic relationships arising in a society in which different languages meet one another. Emphasis will be placed on practical analysis of both text and linguistic expression in addition to theory.
Learning outcomes
