Upon completion of the course, the student shall be able to explain the basic characteristics of
- How pedagogical research is established and how it develops
- Which points of view within the theory of science that are applied and support pedagogical research
- The relation between pedagogical research and the development of society and democracy
Skills
Upon completion of the course, the student is able to
- Understand and compare pedagogical texts in light of scientific epochs, theories and terminology
- Discuss education and pedagogical research in an academic manner
- Apply professional insight in pedagogy and pedagogical academic questions
General competence
Upon completion of the course the student has
- Trained and developed his/her academic and scientific thinking orally and in writing
- Developed his/her critical thinking and insight in the relation between pedagogy and society
Contents
The course gives an introduction to basic scientific and historical questions within pedagogical research.
The course comprises
- The relation between pedagogical history, pedagogical theory, pedagogical practice and society
- Pedagogical research
- Scientific thinking and discourse
Teaching and learning methods
Lectures, seminars, group work and alternative teaching plans.
Examination requirements
An oral presentation and a written assignment must be approved. Further details will be provided in Canvas when the semester starts.
Examinations
5-hour written, digital examination without aids. Graded assessment.
Student evaluation
Course evaluation is conducted at midterm.
