Project description

Hydropower is a reliable, clean, and cost-effective renewable energy source that can be used to provide electricity to remote areas. It's a significant source of energy for Sub-Saharan African countries where the demand for electricity is rapidly growing. Hydropower is also a specialized technology that requires a skilled workforce to design, build, and maintain the infrastructure.

The Vocational Education and Training Partnership for Hydropower (VET4Hydro) project addresses this context of social transformation and aims to support and enhance the education sector in hydropower. The consortium involves 6 institutions with complementary profiles and natures: 3 research and technology centers (LNEC, LEC, and LEM), 1 university (UiA),1 polytechnic institute (ISPS) and 1 public administration institute (ICV).

Intensive courses for instructors and teachers, assistance in designing laboratories, training in the use of laboratory equipment, and joint courses between European and African instructors are some of the planned actions within the project.

Purpose

The objectives of VET4Hydro are: (i) to develop teaching skills and improve the teaching-learning process that occurs within the partners; and (ii) to enable teachers to have access to the latest developments in the field and the labor market needs, helping them adopt new content and teaching methodologies.

As instructors gain access to the latest technological developments and labor market needs, it is expected that they will be motivated to enhance the content of their courses. This way, instructors can feel more prepared to carry out their training activities.
