Project description

The SecureIoTM project aims to redefine cybersecurity standards for network-connected devices. As everything from smart refrigerators to tracking systems becomes part of the IoT ecosystem, their security is of utmost importance. At the core of this effort is the Tsetlin Machine, a groundbreaking machine learning method that combines advanced computational power with energy efficiency.

Unlike traditional machine learning frameworks, the Tsetlin Machine stands out by offering both high performance and energy efficiency. With an increasing number of devices, from essential medical equipment to coffee machines, being integrated into IoT, SecureIoTM focuses on enhancing their ability to withstand cyberattacks, thereby protecting both data integrity and privacy.

This innovative project is a collaboration between the Center of Artificial Intelligence Research (CAIR) at the University of Agder, Sørlandet Hospital Trust, and Newcastle University. It is built upon four key pillars of innovation. First and foremost, Continuous Learning emphasizes the ability of devices to continuously learn and adapt while preserving prior knowledge.

Adaptive Complexity refers to the Tsetlin Machine’s ability to dynamically adjust its model complexity based on task requirements, balancing precision and energy consumption. Cyber Resilience, the third pillar, goes beyond merely detecting threats—it empowers the system to actively combat cyber threats in real time. Finally, Seamless Integrationensures that SecureIoTM’s solutions can be smoothly incorporated into existing IoT networks, enhancing their built-in intelligence and security.

If SecureIoTM achieves its ambitions, it could redefine today’s standards for threat detection in IoT, introducing methods that are more adaptive, robust, and energy-efficient.
