The PhD degree should be relevant to the company's area of responsibility. Employees apply for admission to a regular PhD program and divide their time between the company and the university.
Companies entering into an agreement for an industrial PhD receive an annual financial grant from the Norwegian Research Council equivalent to 50 percent of the current doctoral candidate rate for three years. The funds are provided as project support to the company and not as a personal scholarship to the employee.
