Why am I running for election?
When I received an email saying that only one candidate had put themselves forward for the constituency of temporary employees in scientific positions, I was not surprised. We have limited time to step back from our projects, and uncertainty about the future makes it easy to deprioritize long-term impact. Yet we may be the group with the most to gain from a clear voice in the university board. We are the permanent employees of the future, and our time as temporary staff at UiA shapes both our own futures and that of the university.
The 3 most important issues:
1. Open and reproducible research: At a time when the value and credibility of research is being challenged, it is more important than ever that UiA is firmly grounded in the highest scientific standards. I will work to strengthen UiA's profile as a university where research quality is high and open research practices are the norm.
2. Working conditions and quality of life for temporary employees: Being a doctoral fellow is an enormous privilege, for example, we largely set our own schedules. But that same freedom can make it difficult to switch off. Expectations and rights are also not always equally clear to everyone. Through engagement with UiADoc and conversations with colleagues, I have seen the breadth of experiences within our constituency. I will bring these perspectives into the board and work to ensure that UiA is a place where temporary employees know what to expect, and thrive.
3. Interdisciplinary collaboration as a growth strategy: UiA is growing, with new programmes such as psychology and law. In line with the university's vision of co-creation for the knowledge of the future, I see this as an opportunity for creative collaboration across disciplines and departments.
Why should you vote for me? I am curious, structured, and a good listener. I believe we make the best decisions when we both listen and discuss. Openness is a value I hold in high regard, in research as in professional life. I believe the hardest conversations are often the most important ones.
