Academic Work Placement

The Academic Work Placement programme offers refugees with an academic background the opportunity to gain work experience at the university. UiA provides placements of up to one year for refugees who are residents in Norway.

Benefits of the programme

  • Proximity to their own field of study
  • Insight into how they can continue their academic path
  • Valuable language practice
  • Better understanding of Norwegian society
  • Improved job qualifications

Participation in the programme does not give refugees the right to further study or a position at UiA, but it is intended to help participants get started with their life in Norway as quickly as possible.

Target group and qualifications

  • The programme is aimed at refugees residing in Kristiansand, Grimstad, or other municipalities in Agder.
  • Participants must have completed at least one academic degree.
  • Participants must be enrolled in the introduction programme for newly arrived refugees in the municipality where they live. Read about the introduction programme in Kristiansand municipality.

Candidates will be placed in an academic environment relevant to their background. Tasks may be similar to those given to research assistants or involve other administrative duties. Participants are also welcome to attend teaching sessions as part of the placement.
