Red Flag Campaign – Prevention of sexual harassment
The Red Flag Campaign is an awareness initiative developed at the University of Agder (UiA) to prevent sexual harassment within student communities. The campaign focuses on the perpetrator's perspective, aiming to encourage reflection on personal attitudes and behaviours, without assigning blame to victims. It uses gender-neutral language, visual tools and digital platforms to engage young adults in conversations about consent and respect.
Campaign goals
- Increase awareness around setting boundaries and consent.
- Prevent sexual harassment through knowledge and dialogue.
- Create a safer student environment by challenging unhealthy attitudes.
- Engage both students and staff in a joint effort against harassment.

Results from the campaign
- 48% of new students reported that the campaign made them more aware of their attitudes, and 86% believe the campaign should continue (Semester Start Survey 2024).
- The campaign reached over 300,000 people through coverage by the national broadcaster, NRK, and the media showed significant interest in the campaign.
- There was considerable national and international interest from other institutions.
On this page, you will find campaign materials, guidelines for use, and information on how to adapt and implement the campaign at your institution.
Guidelines for using the Red Flag Campaign
1. Purpose and principles
- Main principle: Use campaign materials to prevent sexual harassment by holding potential perpetrators accountable in a gender-neutral manner.
- Commitment: External parties must uphold the campaign's core message and refrain from altering content that could distort this message.
- Reference to UiA: Credit UiA as the developer and original source of the campaign, either through a logo or a brief text explaining its origin.
2. Permitted adaptations
- Design and branding: External parties may adapt the visuals of the campaign materials to suit their own profile (colours/logo), but the content must remain unchanged.
- Young people/students should be involved to ensure the language remains direct and relevant.
