Title of trial lecture:
Reflect on the implications that transferring folk artistic expressions into other stylistic contexts may have—both for folk art and for the other tradition or context. Examples that have not already been addressed in the submitted reflection section must be used, both from your own work and from the work of other artists.

Summary of thesis
Playing folk music in slow motion has been a PhD project in artistic research, which has examined folk music from Scandinavia from two complementing angles.
The project is presented in the form of two albums.
The first album being interpretations of a handfull of tunes in the Setesdal tradition, made on the modular synthesizer. Which can be heard on the record ‘Nordafjells’, one of the two records that make up the artistic outcomes of this project.
The second record being ‘Unit of Time’ which represents the other angle of the project. Where Egil Kalman (the doctoral candidate) and drummer Hans Hulbækmo make use of elements from Scandinavian folk music as a basis for their own improvisations and compositions.
