Summary of thesis
In his PhD thesis, Philipp investigates how energy use in industrial processes can be optimized using advanced mathematical methods and artificial intelligence. The work focuses on the food industry, where energy demand is high and flexibility offers significant savings potential. By combining predictive models, machine learning, and intelligent control strategies, the developed approaches enable companies to shift energy consumption to more cost-efficient periods. In addition, energy storage systems such as batteries and thermal storage are used to further increase flexibility. The results show that energy costs and consumption can be significantly reduced while maintaining stable and reliable operation. Overall, the thesis demonstrates how modern data-driven methods can support a more efficient, sustainable, and flexible energy system in industry.
