The honorary membership was awarded during a company visit to Hovland's startup, Hokarob, on November 22. This recognition honors individuals who have made particularly outstanding contributions to NSOM’s field and objectives.
– Hovland has long deserved recognition for his work in mechatronics. He has been a key figure in the development of mechatronics in Norway, with a lasting impact on education, research, and industrial collaboration, says Daniel Hagen, head of NSOM.

Hovland is currently on leave from his position at UiA to fully focus on his entrepreneurial venture. Hokarob has recently launched its new robotic machining software: Robotic machining made easy – IRBCAM. They have also developed a unique parallel kinematic CNC vertical milling machine.
Hovland is the third person to receive honorary membership. Previous recipients include Morten Ottestad (2021) and Knut Brautaset (2022).
