Areas of responsibility

Samuel Anokye Nyarko holds a PhD in International Businss from the School of Business and Law, University of Agder and a PhD in Economics and Management from the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, Université libre de Bruxelles (cotutelle PhD). He has assisted in teaching several master and bachelor courses at the University of Agder, Norway and at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. Previously, he also worked as an assistant coordinator of Educational Pathways International (EPI), Ghana.

Samuel holds a Master of Science degree in Business Administration (specilaization in International Management) from University of Agder and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (specialization in Accounting) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is also a qualified Accountant with certification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG).

Samuel is a member of the Center for Research on Social Enterprises and Microfinance (CERSEM) at the University of Agder (https://cersem.uia.no/) and the Centre for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) at the Université libre de Bruxelles (http://www.cermi.eu/).

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping teaching and learning, prompting renewed policy attention within higher education. While prior research has explored the antecedents of students’ AI usage intentions, limited attention has been given to how these intentions are shaped by assessment formats and motivational orientations. This study investigates how group-based versus individual-based assessments affect students’ intentions to use AI—specifically ChatGPT—for learning and exams, considering autonomous and controlled motivations. Survey data from 193 undergraduate and postgraduate business students were analyzed using co-variance-based structural equation modelling techniques. The findings reveal that group-based assessments increase students’ likelihood of using AI for learning. While neither autonomous nor controlled motivation directly encourages AI use for learning, controlled motivation reduces AI usage. Notably, autonomous motivation positively moderates the relationship between individual-based assessment and AI use for learning. Finally, students’ intention to use AI for learning translates into its use for exams. Implications of these findings for academic institutions, educators and students are discussed.

International ownership positively impacts the social performance of social enterprises at the expense of financial performance. International owners mostly use their resources and controlling rights to improve social performance at the expense of financial performance. Current ownership theories do not address how the multidimensional utility function might affect the governance and financing of a social enterprise. There is a need to develop theories for firms with conflicting objectives.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is assumed to function better in open societies and competitive markets where market forces drive communication and voluntary adoption of self-regulated quality CSR practices. Thus, the common wisdom maintains that consumer awareness of positive CSR activities of an organisation elicits positive perceptions about the organisation. Contrarily, we find negative and insignificant effect of CSR communication on perceived CSR performance in the context of Norway. The findings are consistent with predictions of crowding-out theory which submits that moderately enforced government policies can displace consumers’ intrinsic motivations to contribute to public good. Further, we find support for the contention that context affects decisions, especially where there are no clearly defined norms for appropriate behaviour and decisions are sensitive to social considerations. Building on existing literature, we provide a novel contribution by introducing explanations for consumers’ attitude towards CSR communication based on context and crowding-out theory.
