Background and experience

I am Professor of Religion at the University of Agder. My academic background is in biblical studies, and I completed my PhD at UiA in 2017 on ideology and Bible translation. My research and teaching are situated at the intersection of biblical studies, translation studies, reception history, and religious education. I have published extensively on Bible translation, translation ideology, Christology, and the reception of biblical texts.

Alongside my research on biblical texts and translation, I also work on educational development and scholarship of teaching and learning, with a particular focus on digital learning resources, virtual and place-based learning, and the pedagogical use of technology in higher education.

Areas of responsibility

I currently serve as Programme Leader for the BA in Religion, Ethics and Society and have previously served as Subject Coordinator for Religion in the Integrated Master's Programme in Teacher Education (Years 8-13) and for KRLE in Primary and Lower Secondary Teacher Education (Years 1-7 and 5-10).

I lead the research group Holy Scriptures and Authoritative Texts at the University of Agder. The group brings together researchers working on sacred and authoritative texts across religious traditions and historical contexts. I am also affiliated with the Agder Forum for Translation Studies and the research group Religion, Kindergarten and School.

In addition, I lead the Forum for Authoritative Scriptures at UiA, which promotes interdisciplinary discussion of sacred texts and their interpretation, transmission, and reception.

Through these roles, I contribute to the development of research, teaching, and academic collaboration in the fields of religion, biblical studies, translation studies, and religious education.

Teaching

I teach courses in biblical studies, Christianity, Jewish, Christian and Islamic texts, and religious education at bachelor, master, and teacher education levels. I supervise master's students and contribute to curriculum development within religion and teacher education programmes.

Research

My research focuses on how translation shapes the interpretation and reception of authoritative texts, particularly the Bible. I am interested in questions related to Bible translation, translation ideology, retranslation, Christology, and the historical reception of biblical texts. Recent work has explored how translation shapes the transmission, reception, and transformation of theological concepts.

I also work within the field of digital humanities, applying corpus-based and computational approaches to the study of biblical texts, translation history, and the reception of authoritative texts.

A second area of research concerns religious education and digital pedagogy, including place-based learning, virtual excursions, and the educational use of interactive technologies.

Research interests:

  • Bible translation and retranslation
  • Translation ideology
  • Digital Humanities
  • Reception history
  • Christology and biblical interpretation
  • Religious education
