Background and experience

PhD in Biology with Specialization in Ecology at the department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment at Swedish University of Agricultural sciences (SLU Uppsala). My PhD project focused on predicting and validating the potential expansion of the invasive cyanobacterium Raphidiopsis raciborskii in areas of unknown occurrence as well as to understand the environmental drivers underpinning its potential expansion and establishment in Swedish lakes.

Research assistant at the Perhentian Marine Research Station focusing on coral, fish and seagrass surveys around the Perhentian Islands (Malaysia).

MSc in Aquaculture and Marine Resource Management with specialization in Marine Resources and Ecology at Wageningen University. MSc thesis in Environmental Toxicology to assess how tides affect bioaccumulation and biotransformation of PAHs in marine bivalves. MSc internship with a coral restoration project in Kenya in which I conducted an experimental study to assess the effect of different nursery designs on coral growth.

BSc in Biology at the University of Pavia (Italy). BSc thesis at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences on the identification of alien species in the Northern Sector of the Lagoon of Venice, with particular focus on the sessile benthic community.

Areas of responsibility

Postdoctoral research fellow in Coastal Ecology, aiming to understand the environmental drivers affecting coastal ecosystems in the Skagerrak and the North Sea.

Research

My research interests stem from the desire to understand how anthropogenic factors, and related climatic change, could affect phytoplankton diversity and community structure in aquatic systems.
