  In the mid-2000s, Norway aimed to lead in entrepreneurship education, supported by significant political commitment and an action plan. Despite this initial momentum, the post-implementation period saw limited political activity. The new national curriculum, the Knowledge Promotion Reform (LK20) marked a shift, advocating exploration, interdisciplinary work, and deep learning, aligning with pedagogical entrepreneurship’s core. This study analyzes LK20’s expression of pedagogical entrepreneurship using the VECCI-criteria as an analysis framework: Value creation, Experiential learning, Creativity, Collaboration, and Interdisciplinarity. A quantitative content analysis reveals that all the criteria were visible, but Value creation and Experiential learning featured prominently, while Interdisciplinarity was less evident. Qualitative analysis indicates that pedagogical entrepreneurship can help schools meet the core curriculum's goals because its concepts can be applied in various ways. Although there are intentions to fully integrate pedagogical entrepreneurship into the education systems of Norway and Europe, these intentions are not clear in the core curriculum.

  Objectives Establishing healthy dietary patterns in childhood lowers the risk of developing non-communicable diseases. After-school programs are important settings in public health work, as they reach a majority of young students and shape everyday food and meal practices. The aim of this study was to explore students’ experiences of being “food agents”, a central role in an intervention aiming to increase food literacy competencies. The after-school program employees' experiences with students as food agents during the intervention were included in the analysis, to broaden the perspectives. Study design Qualitative focus groups and individual interviews. Methods Qualitative focus groups with 19 students from 2nd (7-8 years old) to 4th grade (10-11 years old) and individual interviews with six after-school program employees in Norway. The anonymous transcripts were uploaded to Nvivo 15 and analysed inductively using Braun and Clarkes reflexive thematic analysis approach. Results The students enjoyed being part of the intervention and acting as food agents. They reported joy of preparing and serving food, learning new cooking skills and trying new foods. Gaining responsibility and receiving positive feedback from peers on their work is something which provided them with a sense of growth and mastering. This feedback was supported by the staff who observed positive engagement among the students. Conclusions Our results suggest that including students in preparing and serving meals in after-school programs can provide students with valuable experiences related to both food literacy competencies and personal growth.

  This study researched food and health (FH) and science (SC) teachers’ broad experiences of how nine interdisciplinary food and chemistry videos functioned as pedagogical tools and their suitability in 6th and/or 9th grades at different schools, after the implementation of a new curriculum. In-depth interview data with SC (n = 3 men) and FH (n = 7 women, 1 man) teachers’ experiences of seven teacher-chosen videos in three schools were analyzed by reflexive thematic analysis, within a design-based implementation research approach. The results showed four main themes: 1) interdisciplinary potential overlooked due to subject knowledge gaps and lack of collaboration experience, 2) the videos were quality pedagogical supplements that teachers needed to use wisely, 3) challenges in using the interdisciplinary videos based on curricula and pupil levels, and 4) support is needed to overcome barriers and reach interdisciplinary potential in schools. The results indicate that videos have pedagogical potential, particularly for 9th graders. The teachers seemed to need curriculum material and school management support to fully realize the interdisciplinary potential of videos, which may be of guidance for curriculum implementation studies. Future studies should include school surveys and broader qualitative studies to explore experiences with videos and supplementary curriculum materials.

  Background Childhood obesity is a global public health issue, which has prompted governments to invest in prevention programmes. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of parent-focused early childhood obesity prevention interventions globally. Methods We did a systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis. We searched databases and trial registries (MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, CINAHL, PsycInfo, ClinicalTrials.gov, and WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform) from inception until Sept 30, 2024, for randomised controlled trials commencing before 12 months of age examining parent-focused behavioural interventions to prevent obesity in children, compared With usual care, no intervention, or attention control. Individual participant data were checked, harmonised, and assessed for integrity and risk of bias. We excluded trials that were quasi-randomised, investigated pregnancy-only interventions, or did not collect any child weight-related outcomes. The primary outcome was BMI Z score at age 24 months (±6 months). We did an intention-to-treat, two-stage, random effects meta-analysis to examine effects overall and for prespecified subgroups. We assessed certainty of evidence using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation. This study is registered with PROSPERO, CRD42020177408. Findings Of 19 990 identified records, 47 (0·24%) trials were completed and eligible. Of these, 18 (38%) assessed Our primary outcome, BMI Z score. We obtained individual participant data for 17 (94%; n=9128) of these 18 trials (n=9383), representing 97% of eligible participants. Of these 9128 participants, 4549 (50%) were boys, 4415 (48%) were girls, and 164 (2%) had unknown sex. We found no evidence of an effect of interventions on BMI Z score at age 24 months (±6 months; mean difference –0·01 [95% CI –0·08 to 0·05]; high certainty evidence, τ²=0·01; n=6505; 2623 missing). Findings were robust to prespecified sensitivity analyses (eg, different analysis methods and missing data), and we found no evidence of differential intervention effects for prespecified subgroups including priority populations and trial-level factors. Interpretation These findings indicate that examined parent-focused behavioural interventions are insufficient to prevent obesity at age 24 months (±6 months). This evidence highlights a need to re-think childhood obesity prevention approaches.

  Background Early childhood obesity prevention interventions that aim to change parent/caregiver practices related to infant (milk) feeding, food provision and parent feeding, movement (including activity, sedentary behaviour) and/ or sleep health (i.e. target parental behaviour domains) are diverse and heterogeneously reported. We aimed to 1) systematically characterise the target behaviours, delivery features, and Behaviour Change Techniques (BCTs) used in interventions in the international Transforming Obesity Prevention for CHILDren (TOPCHILD) Collaboration, and 2) explore similarities and differences in BCTs used in interventions by target behaviour domains. Methods Annual systematic searches were performed in MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane (CENTRAL), CINAHL, PsycINFO, and two clinical trial registries, from inception to February 2023. Trialists from eligible randomised controlled trials of parent-focused, behavioural early obesity prevention interventions shared unpublished intervention materials. Standardised approaches were used to code target behaviours, delivery features and BCTs in both published and unpublished intervention materials. Validation meetings confirmed coding with trialists. Narrative syntheses were performed. Results Thirty-two trials reporting 37 active intervention arms were included. Interventions targeted a range of behaviours. The most frequent combination was targeting all parental behaviour domains (infant [milk] feeding, food provision and parent feeding, movement, sleep health; n[intervention arms]=15/37). Delivery features varied considerably. Most interventions were delivered by a health professional (n=26/36), included facilitator training (n=31/36), and were interactive (n=28/36). Overall, 49 of 93 unique BCTs were coded to at least one target behav‑ iour domain. The most frequently coded BCTs were: Instruction on how to perform a behaviour (n[intervention arms, separated by domain]=102), Behavioural practice and rehearsal (n=85), Information about health consequences (n=85), Social support (unspecified) (n=84), and Credible source (n=77). Similar BCTs were often used for each target behaviour domain. Conclusions Our study provides the most comprehensive description of the behaviour change content of complex interventions targeting early childhood obesity prevention available to date. Our analysis revealed that interventions targeted multiple behaviour domains, with significant variation in delivery features. Despite the diverse range of BCTs coded, five BCTs were consistently identified across domains, though certain BCTs were more prevalent in specific domains. These findings can be used to examine effectiveness of components and inform intervention development and evaluation in future trials. Trial registration PROSPERO registration no.   Læreplanen i mat og helse har kompetansemål etter 4., 7, og 10. trinn, samtidig som læreplanen skal ses i lys av læreplanverkets overordnede del. Opplæringsloven slår fast at elevene har rett til grunnskoleopplæring i samsvar med læreplanene. Tidligere forskning har vist store variasjoner i hvordan mat- og helseundervisningen gjennomføres. I denne artikkelen undersøker vi hvordan elever på 4. trinn opplever mat- og helseundervisningen sett opp mot hvordan skoleledere mener de prioriterer undervisningen i faget, med henblikk på elevenes lovfestede rettigheter. Studien har et kvalitativt forskningsdesign. Vi har gjennomført åtte semi-strukturerte fokusgruppe-intervjuer med elever på 4. trinn, og individuelle intervjuer med skoleledere på fire skoler i to landsdeler. Innsamlede data er analysert ved hjelp av tematisk analyse. Resultatene tyder på sammenheng mellom hvorvidt undervisningen er timeplanfestet eller ikke, og elevenes opplevde undervisning. Resultatene indikerer også at det var norsk, matematikk og engelsk skoleledelsen prioriterte da Kunnskapsløftet 2020 ble innført, noe som kan ha påvirket prioriteringen av mat- og helsefaget. For økt satsning på mat og helse, bør faget timeplanfestes for 1.-4. trinn, for å sikre at elevene i større grad får den undervisningen de har krav på. Temaet bør også inn i rektorutdanningen, og tilbys som fagvalg ved alle landets lærerutdanningsinstitusjoner.

  Introduction Little is known about how early (eg, commencing antenatally or in the first 12 months after birth) obesity prevention interventions seek to change behaviour and which components are or are not effective.   Introduction: Behavioural interventions in early life appear to show some effect in reducing childhood overweight and obesity. However, uncertainty remains regarding their overall effectiveness, and whether effectiveness differs among key subgroups. These evidence gaps have prompted an increase in very early childhood obesity prevention trials worldwide. Combining the individual participant data (IPD) from these trials will enhance statistical power to determine overall effectiveness and enable examination of individual and trial-level subgroups. We present a protocol for a systematic review with IPD meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of obesity prevention interventions commencing antenatally or in the first year after birth, and to explore whether there are differential effects among key subgroups. Methods and analysis: Systematic searches of Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsycInfo and trial registries for all ongoing and completed randomised controlled trials evaluating behavioural interventions for the prevention of early childhood obesity have been completed up to March 2021 and will be updated annually to include additional trials. Eligible trialists will be asked to share their IPD; if unavailable, aggregate data will be used where possible. An IPD meta-analysis and a nested prospective meta-analysis will be performed using methodologies recommended by the Cochrane Collaboration. The primary outcome will be body mass index z-score at age 24±6 months using WHO Growth Standards, and effect differences will be explored among prespecified individual and trial-level subgroups. Secondary outcomes include other child weight-related measures, infant feeding, dietary intake, physical activity, sedentary behaviours, sleep, parenting measures and adverse events. Ethics and dissemination: Approved by The University of Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee (2020/273) and Flinders University Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee (HREC CIA2133-1). Results will be relevant to clinicians, child health services, researchers, policy-makers and families, and will be disseminated via publications, presentations and media releases.

  Background: In Western countries, children’s diets are often low in fruits and vegetables and high in discretionary foods. Diet in early life tends to track through childhood and youth and even into adulthood. Interventions should, therefore, be delivered in periods when habitual traits are established, as in toddlerhood when children adapt to their family’s diet. Objective: In this study, we assessed the effect of the Food4toddlers eHealth intervention, which aimed to enhance toddlers’ diets by shaping their food and eating environment. Methods: The Food4toddlers randomized controlled trial was conducted in Norway in 2017-2018. Parent-child dyads were recruited through social media. In total, 298 parents completed an online questionnaire at baseline (mean child age 10.9 months, SD 1.2). Postintervention questionnaires were completed immediately after the intervention (ie, follow-up 1; mean child age 17.8 months, SD 1.3) and 6 months after the intervention (ie, follow-up 2; mean child age 24.2 months, SD 1.9). The intervention was guided by social cognitive theory, which targets the linked relationship between the person, the behavior, and the environment. The intervention group (148/298, 49.7%) got access to the Food4toddlers website for 6 months from baseline. The website included information on diet and on how to create a healthy food and eating environment as well as activities, recipes, and collaboration opportunities. To assess intervention effects on child diet from baseline to follow-up 1 and from baseline to follow-up 2, we used generalized estimating equations and a time × group interaction term. Between-group differences in changes over time for frequency and variety of fruits and vegetables and frequency of discretionary foods were assessed. Results: At follow-up 1, a significant time × group interaction was observed for the frequency of vegetable intake (P=.02). The difference between groups in the change from baseline to follow-up 1 was 0.46 vegetable items per day (95% CI 0.06-0.86) in favor of the intervention group. No other significant between-group differences in dietary changes from baseline to follow-up 1 or follow-up 2 were observed. However, there is a clear time trend showing that the intake of discretionary foods increases by time from less than 1 item per week at baseline to more than 4 items per week at 2 years of age (P<.001), regardless of group. Conclusions: A positive intervention effect was observed for the frequency of vegetable intake at follow-up 1 but not at follow-up 2. No other between-group effects on diet were observed. eHealth interventions of longer duration, including reminders after the main content of the intervention has been delivered, may be needed to obtain long-terms effects, along with tailoring in a digital or a personal form.

  Background: Positive parental feeding practices and a higher frequency of family meals are related to healthier child dietary habits. Parents play an essential role when it comes to the development of their child’s eating habits. However, parents are increasingly distracted by their mobile phone during mealtimes. The aim of this study was to describe the feeding practices and daily shared family meals among parents who use and do not use a mobile phone during mealtimes, and further to explore the associations between the use of a mobile phone during mealtimes and feeding practices and daily shared family meals, respectively. Methods: Cross-sectional data from the Food4toddler study were used to explore the association between mobile use during meals and parental feeding practices including family meals. In 2017/2018 parents of toddlers were recruited through social media to participate in the study. In total 298 out of 404 who volunteered to participate, filled in a baseline questionnaire, including questions from the comprehensive feeding practices questionnaire (CFPQ), questions of frequency of family meals and use of mobile phone during meals. Results: Herein, 4 out of 10 parents reported various levels of phone use (meal distraction) during mealtimes. Parental phone use was associated with lower use of positive parental feeding practices like modelling (B = − 1.05 (95% CI -1.69; − 0.41)) and family food environment (B = − 0.77 (95% CI -1.51; − 0.03)), and more use of negative parental feeding practices like emotional regulation (B = 0.73 (95% CI 0.32; 1.14)) and the use of pressure to eat (B = 1.22 (95% CI 0.41; 2.03)). Furthermore, parental phone use was associated with a lower frequency of daily family breakfast (OR = 0.50 (95% CI 0.31; 0.82)) and dinner (OR = 0.57 (95% CI 0.35; 0.93)). Conclusions: Mobile phone use is common among parents during mealtimes, and findings indicate that parental phone use is associated with less healthy feeding practices and shared family meals. These findings highlight the importance of making parents aware of potential impacts of meal distractions.

  Bakgrunn: For barn og unges læring, mestring og trivsel er det viktig at de møter kvalifiserte lærere med god fagkompetanse. Siden 2015 har det vært en økning i andelen lærere med tilstrekkelig fagkompetanse i norsk skole, men lærere som oppfyller disse formelle kravene i mat og helse (MH) er fortsatt lavest blant de som underviser. Den norske regjeringen har satset på videreutdanning for lærere siden 2016 gjennom Kompetanse for kvalitet (KfK), og de ønsker å videreføre den nasjonale satsingen fram mot 2025. Satsningen skal bidra til at skoleeier skal kunne styrke kompetansen i alle fag og realisere intensjonene i fagfornyelsen. Formål: Vi ønsker å få mer kunnskap om hvorfor lærere tar videreutdanning i mat og helse og hvordan kompetansen blir brukt i etterkant i skolen. Målet med Kompetansebehov i mat- og helsestudien (KOMAH) er å få mer systematisk kunnskap om behovet for kompetanse i faget i grunnskolen over tid. Design: Dette er en longitudinell studie som strekker seg over 7 år, og vi følger eventuelle endringer på individnivå. Utvalg: Grunnskolelærere (da studenter og nå lærere) som tok mat og helse 1 gjennom KfK i tidsperioden 2020-2023 på UiA, HVL og USN. Resultater: pågår.

  Aims and objectives: 1) to develop, implement, and evaluate an eHealth intervention, aiming to promote healthy dietary habits in toddlers by targeting parents’ awareness of their child’s food and eating environments, and 2) to examine associations between parental food choice motives, parental feeding practices, and children’s fruit and vegetable intake. Results: The study’s rationale and development were described in a protocol paper, along with a presentation of the baseline characteristics of the included participants. In total, 404 parents signed up for participation, and 298 answered baseline questionnaires and were randomized into either the control (n=150) or intervention (n=148) group. Most of the parents were highly educated mothers. From baseline to the first follow-up there was a significant time by group interaction for the frequency of vegetable intake (p = 0.02), showing a higher change in intake in the intervention group compared with the control group (paper III). A borderline significant between-group difference in the variety of vegetable intake in favor of the intervention group was seen from baseline to both follow-ups. No significant differences were observed for other food groups. The process evaluation of the study (paper IV) revealed that 86.5% of the participants in the intervention group visited the website. Most parents found the website appropriate to the child’s age as well as self-explanatory (86–95%) and appreciated the layout and interface (55–63%). The recipes were valued as the most appreciated element included in the website. Highly educated participants (> 4 years of university/college) reported that they used end learned more from the website than participants with ≤ 4 years of education. Regarding the second aim (paper II), the results showed that higher parental scores on health motives were associated with a higher child intake of vegetables (τ = 0.394 (SE = 0.098), p < 0.001). No associations with fruit or vegetables were found for other parental food choice motives. Some associations between food choice motives and child vegetable or fruit intakes were mediated by the feeding practices assessed, though solely for health and sensory appeal motives. Effect sizes of the observed associations were generally small. Conclusions: Our findings support the use of eHealth interventions for supporting parents in their children's dietary upbringing. Through making the parents aware of dietary determinants and encouraging them to create a healthy food and eating environment, child diet was slightly improved, i.e., higher vegetable intake in the intervention group was observed. The intervention was well received by the parents, although especially by highly educated parents. Still, we did not manage to engage 13% of the participants, who did not enter the website at all. Health motives were associated with child vegetable intake, and healthpromoting feeding practices had some mediation effect. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of the relations affecting toddler’s eating habits. However, more research is needed to examine the prospective and experimental evidence of interventions to enhance toddlers’ diet and to clarify interactions between elements in the child’s food and eating environment that affect the diet.
