Background and experience

Jiacheng Ma is a PhD researcher from China with a unique blend of expertise in both exercise science and engineering. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Information Engineering, which provided him with strong programming skills and a deep understanding of sensor technologies. His strong interest in the relationship between exercise and health led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Human Movement Science. During his studies, he gained extensive experience exploring the benefits of exercise, particularly how aerobic exercise impacts cardiac health.

Currently, Jiacheng is a PhD research fellow at the University of Agder (UiA), where he is part of the INDEEP MSCA doctoral network. His research focuses on developing innovative algorithms to classify physical activity types and intensities using accelerometer devices, aiming to fill critical gaps in physical activity behaviour monitoring. By integrating his engineering background with his passion for exercise science, he is committed to advancing health technology and contributing to the improvement of public health worldwide.
