Background and experience

My research focuses on health professions education and its role in shaping the visibility and invisibility of neglected tropical diseases, particularly Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS). Through my doctoral research in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, I explore how educational practices, knowledge systems, and clinical training influence the recognition, diagnosis, and management of FGS within healthcare settings.

My research interests include health and development, gender, culture and society, migration and health, and neglected tropical diseases. Drawing on my interdisciplinary background in public administration and development studies as well as a registered nurse (Norway), I am committed to advancing equitable and context-sensitive global healthcare through research that informs policy, health professions education, and clinical practice.
