Areas of responsibility

Fang ZHENG began working at the University of Agder as a PhD Research Fellow in April 2022. Shortly after that, she joined the Cotutelle and Joint PhD program between UiA and University of Southern Denmark. Her primary research interests include international business policy, global virtual team performance, and the combined usage of Necessary Condition Analysis with PLS-SEM.

Prior to joining UiA, Fang worked for the Norwegian Embassy (Innovation Norway) in Beijing, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the Hungarian Embassy in Beijing. Throughout her academic and professional experiences, cross-border trade and investment activities have been the central focus of her work.

Fang ZHENG completed her Master's degree in International Business Negotiation from Rennes School of Business, France in 2019.

This paper aims to promote research on Global Virtual Teams (GVTs). We review current GVT research, introduce the X-Culture data set as one potential empirical data set for future research, and summarise relevant future research avenues. These avenues align with the European Journal of International Management's (EJIM) vision of becoming a research platform for GVT-related research.

Purpose This study aims to provide an integrated overview of international business (IB) policy-turn studies, suggesting avenues for future research that could potentially strengthen IB field’s relevance to policymakers, practitioners and broader society. Design/methodology/approach This study reviews emerging policy-turn studies that address societal concerns in the IB literature by combining content analysis with bibliometric methods using the bibliometrix R-package and VOSviewer software. Findings Drawing on 275 articles published between 2015 and 2024 in the Web of Science database, the authors identified three main research clusters: global value chain, sustainable development and institutional dynamics, revealing how IB scholarship can extend beyond firm-centric concerns to engage with complex social challenges. Originality/value By mapping the clusters, the study’s findings offer a clearer sense of what constitutes a policy-turn from a societal perspective and demonstrate the potential of such research in addressing pressing social issues IB activities are facing.
