Have you experienced unwanted sexual attention or harassment at UiA?

UiA does not tolerate staff or students being subjected to unwanted sexual attention or sexual harassment. Here you will find information on what to do if something happens.

When bothersome sexual attention occurs, it is a serious issue. It can have long-lasting consequences for the individual, cause significant absenteeism, and reduce productivity.

Employees are also legally protected from unwanted sexual attention both under the Equality Act Chapter 1 § 13 and the Working Environment Act § 4-3.

For some, it may be difficult to speak up because they fear not being believed. Many feel uncertainty and guilt. In some cases, the person subjected to unwanted sexual attention may fear reprisals and/or punishment. In such situations, it is important to talk to someone, seek support and help, and discuss possible ways to proceed with the matter.

How to report

If you have been subjected to unwanted behavior, you have several options depending on the severity and nature of the situation:

  • Contact SiA Health (students)
  • Contact your nearest manager and explain the situation. If it's challenging to do it alone, bring someone you trust (employees)
  • Contact the safety representative (employees)
  • Contact the occupational health service at UiA (employees)
  • Use the options for reporting concerning matters at UiA.
  • If a less serious incident occurs that is perceived as unwanted sexual attention, you can also address it directly with the person involved - if you are able to. You can also inform them in writing.

In any case, you should prepare by making a personal note describing the event(s)! Note the time and place, what happened, and how you reacted.
