The Samvirkerom (Joint Operations Room) at the Kristiansand campus was established in 2024 and taken into active use in 2025. It is used for decision‑making training, scenario‑based exercises, and crisis simulations supported by advanced technologies. Feedback from invited partners, along with the current level of utilization, indicates that the Samvirkerom is an attractive and effective arena for education, dissemination, and research activities. It has already proven to be a valuable resource for both the centre and its partners. The Samvirkerom is a “living lab” created for conducting research and innovation in future crisis management technology. A living lab is a user-centered experimental environment where users are actively engaged in the exploration, design and testing. The Samvirkerom has access to a portfolio of technological solutions that may be used in training and testing of crisis management. CIEM cooperates with authorities, emergency agencies, NGOs and private business to develop knowledge sharing and innovation between academia and practitioners.
