The Queer Thing About Sin by Harry Tanner

How did queer people come to be associated with sin and religious condemnation? And what can history tell us about queer lives and rights today?

Harry Tanner explores history, faith, queerness and the idea of queer love as sin. Welcome to the conversation! Photo: Colourbox

In his book The Queer Thing About Sin, Harry Tanner examines historical sources on queer love from antiquity to the modern era.

Drawing on the history of religion, theology and classical studies, he explores when and how the idea of queerness as sin emerged, and the consequences this has had.

We take a closer look at his research and discuss what historical studies can contribute to our understanding of queer lives, identities and struggles for equality today.

Join us for a conversation about history, faith, queerness and society!
