Audio identity

Sound is part of who we are. Just as the visual identity defines how UiA looks, the audio identity defines how UiA sounds – across all platforms and in the moments that matter.

Audio identity

A short, recognisable signature representing the brand.

Short transitions and ident elements used between content.

Longer background audio that creates atmosphere and continuity.

Applications

The audio identity is designed for wide-ranging use and makes UiA instantly recognisable wherever people encounter us. Here are a few examples:

  • Conferences and events – as an intro, outro or to set the mood
  • Podcasts – a recognisable opening and closing for UiA’s podcasts
  • Advertising – a consistent sound profile across campaigns
  • Social media – a short and punchy audio logo in video content
  • Semester start – setting the tone for new students’ first encounter with UiA
  • Answering machine – professional and recognisable hold music or greeting
  • Video – intro and outro in video productions and presentations

How the audio identity came about

The sound identity is the result of genuine co-creation, just as UiA does best. Einar Måløy, a student at the Department of Popular Music, created the sound package as part of a student project, in close collaboration with Professor Bjørn Ole Rasch, the media services team in the IT department and the communications department.

The work began by analysing UiA’s values and visual profile and translating them into sound. The aim was to create something that feels modern, open and inclusive, yet professional and credible.

The soundscape combines electronic and organic elements to reflect the balance between technology and humanity. The tempo and rhythm have been carefully chosen to convey the energy and drive that characterise UiA.

The result is a flexible sound package that can be adapted to different needs, and which makes it easier to communicate a clear identity across different platforms. We will continue to develop the sound of UiA with further variations.
