Areas of responsibility
I am a philosopher and professor of ethics.
Teaching
I teach many subjects at all levels.
These subjects are most often in the fields of natural philosophy, environmental ethics, political philosophy, moral philosophy, applied ethics and social philosophy.
In 2014-2019, I was the study program leader for the master's study in religion, philosophy, and society at the University.
Research
I am currently doing research in natural philosophy and environmental ethics. I recently published the book Ecological Democracy: Caring for the Earth in the Anthropocene (Routledge 2023; the book can be downloaded and read for free here). John S. Dryzek, a leading researcher in the field, hails the book as "a landmark".
In addition, I have done research in the fields of political philosophy, moral philosophy, applied ethics, and social philosophy. My philosophy is often empirically informed, interdisciplinary, and about current affairs. I have also studied thinkers such as Hannah Arendt, Jürgen Habermas, Axel Honneth, Martha C. Nussbaum, and Seyla Benhabib.
I have been involved in several externally funded and interdisciplinary research projects, such as NECORE (Negotiating Values: Collective Identities and Resilience after 22/7) and WAIT (Waiting for an Uncertain Future: The Temporalities of Irregular Migration).
I was an associate researcher at SUM (Center for Development and Environment), University of Oslo (2016-2024), and I lead the Research Group in Ethics and Philosophy at the University of Agder (2014-2024).
I have had a number of research stays, including at Uppsala University and the University of Oxford.
Dissemination engages me very much, and I am regularly invited by a wide range of venues, for example NRK's Dagsnytt 18, NRK P2's Verdibørsen and Arendalsuka. Furthermore, I have publicly responded to the internationally recognized thinkers Charles Taylor, Nancy Fraser, and John S. Dryzek.
