  The global adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is driving a surge in the use of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), creating an urgent need for sophisticated recycling techniques to recover valuable materials and manage waste. Particularly, automating the laborintensive disassembly process is critical for scaling up recycling efforts. This study provides a techno-economic evaluation of a robotic line for disassembling EV LIB modules, exploring whether it's more profitable to extend automation to the cell level. Three different EV modules are examined, and several scenarios are proposed, showing that investments in robotic disassembly could be financially sound, particularly with the anticipated rise in end-of-life EV LIBs. The key to profitability lies in disassembling to the cell level, which enables the recovery of more valuable materials and reduces downstream processing requirements. This research offers practical guidelines for automating the disassembly process in line with future waste management demands.

  In construction the procurement phase is the connection between the definition phase and execution. Thereby it establishes crucial preconditions for success (or failure) in execution by establishing a shift from competition to collaboration as the fundamental logic in the relationship between customer and supplier. The paradox of the procurement of projects in general and collaborative projects in particular is its aim of establishing collaboration through means of competition. The paper presents a literature study of methods used in the client’s procurement of teams in collaborative project delivery models such as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Alliancing and others. Five procurement methods are identified: Direct Negotiations (DN), Team-Based Procurement (TBP), dual Target Outturn Cost (dTUC), Competitive Dialogue (CD) and Best Value Procurement (BVP). Three methods for comparing alternatives are also identified: Weight Rating Calculating (WRC), Best Value Selection (BVS) and Choosing by Advantage (CBA). The paper discusses public procurement, procuring the team in one or several steps, early or late setting of targets related to Target Value Design (TVD), the use of qualitative and quantitative evaluation, the need to adjust the procurement method, and the need for information and training. The possibility of procurement based on design solution is also presented.

  Project management education is well suited for active learning through serious games, and a lot of research has been published on the use of serious games for project management education. Earlier reviews have focused on the content and features of project management serious games. The objectives for using those serious games have been less reviewed. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review to better understand the objectives of using serious games in project management education, with the following research question: Why are project management serious games used in higher education? A systematic review was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). A systematic search enabled us to identify 175 articles, of which forty-three met the eligibility criteria. An inductive content analysis of those articles showed that project management serious games are used mainly for pedagogical and practical reasons. From a pedagogical perspective, serious games are mainly used to develop specific skills that are difficult to acquire in classic ex cathedra lectures, such as practical competencies and soft skills. From a practical perspective, serious games are mainly used for proposing a risk-free trial environment. Based on our analysis, we propose a taxonomy of reasons for using PM games in higher education. Our study also reveals that few studies assess whether serious games meet all their objectives, and that more research is needed on how to implement them into a coherent pedagogical scenario.

  Advanced technologies are changing our working life in unpredictable ways. Consequently, a fear of technologically induced mass unemployment has re-emerged. The increased precarity associated with the technological substitution of work could lead to a regression towards materialist values that are more accepting of authoritarianism and xenophobia. Crucially, these values are less associated with the skills demanded in future work, which tends to be depicted as demanding higher levels of innovation, creative and social skills that are associated with post-materialist values. Current research has thus far overlooked the cultural aspects of large-scale technological substitution of work, which this study illuminates. We investigate how the relationship between occupational values and occupational automatability has developed between 2002 and 2018 in Europe. The results demonstrate that occupational values have been rather stable throughout the period. Occupational values are not becoming more or less fit for artificial intelligence society as would be expected if the context becomes increasingly precarious or innovation-driven. The paper demonstrates that a cultural adaptation to this type of society has not yet occurred.

  The expected benefits of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) include increased safety, reduced costs and increased earning potential due to operational efficiencies and reduction in vessel manning. However, autonomous shipping enabled by such ships bears a greater potential than just replacing humans with machines. Rather, MASS can play a role in transforming supply and logistics chains. The value creation potential of these ships depends on the degree to which they disrupt logistics. Our aim here is to clarify how MASS create value and for whom, as well as how different actors in the maritime logistics ecosystem are able to monetize or otherwise benefit from the innovation. Based on interviews with experts in maritime logistics and autonomous technology, and a desktop study of the opinions of the leaders in maritime innovation, we analyse the different facets of value creation by MASS. We distinguish between the two key sources of value – onboard crew reduction and increased ship intelligence and their effects (cost reductions, earning potential, increased safety and system value) – and explicate for which actors in the ecosystem the value is created. We identify the key changes in the maritime logistics ecosystem, which concern the changing roles of technology providers, shipowners and operators, and we highlight the need for developing complementary infrastructure and activities in the ecosystem.

  While many studies have been published about project management serious games, most of them mainly describe characteristics and features of the games themselves. In those studies, little is found on the pedagogical imple- mentation of serious games and on how they have impacted project management education. In this article, we both discuss how serious games have impacted project management education and how they are implemented from a pedagogical perspective. We used an empirical research approach, based on qualitative observations. Observations included authors’ own usages of a project management serious game (the PM-Game) com- plemented with a synthesis of 10 years of observations and discussions with other teachers who had used this same PM-Game. Results showed that serious games may lead to educational changes such as moving toward active pedagogies, developing new competencies such as soft skills, and changing teachers-students relationship. For the pedagogical implementation, results showed that the serious game was implemented as an integrated concept including hybrid simulation modalities, and combining virtual and augmented learning aspects. In conclusion, serious games have the potential to trigger a change in project management education. But to fully benefit from the potential advantages of this change, they have to be designed, developed and implemented as an integrated gaming and learning concept.

  Despite the focus on collaborative project delivery models (CPDMs) in the construction industry, it remains unclear how it promises bases for delivering better value for money than many traditional models. In view of the importance of knowledge about CPDM delivery, this study aims to explore governance mechanisms that underline the relationship between principal and agent and how this relationship is impacted by the alignment of organisational tools and methods. We argue that there is an interrelationship between agency theory and stewardship theory that provides an important theoretical foundation for CPDMs; additionally, alignment of organisational tools and methods can contribute to overcoming the principal-agent problem in projects if aligned with the functions in CDPMs. An empirical analysis of an exploratory case study supports these assumptions and highlights how CPDM’s success can occur through removing and reducing the fundamental principal-agent problem and illustrates the performance and dangers of CPDM tools. Our findings deepen the theoretical understanding of CPDM delivery and provide new insights into the strategic fit in CPDMs alignment in projects.

  The existing corporate entrepenurship (CE) literature is based on the understanding that CE rests on social ontological individualism, claiming that social life is an aggregate of individuals' actions. To further enhance our knowledge of CE activities as a social phenomena, this chapter uses practice theory to uncover the interrelated activities of CE practitioners. We study CE practices in the context of servitization, through the entrepreneurial practices formed when manufacturers move from products to services. Our empirical material is gathered from five manufacturing firms in Norway within an industrial cluster of suppliers to the energy and maritime sectors. We identify four interrelated entrepreneuring practices: prospecting the ecosystem; developing the new service-oriented business venture; transforming the organization; and establishing the new service-oriented business venture. We use practice theory empirically to describe the dynamics related to practice-arrangement bundles. Finally, we contribute to CE theory by exposing the four emergent CE bundles and the ways different types of practitioners were involved in the practice-arrangement bundles we identified.

  This conceptual chapter utilizes extant servitization and digitalization theorization and discusses the impact of digital servitization on customization/standardization and customer interaction. The study argues that the transformation toward digital servitization is complex and goes far beyond the technological dimension. The study contributes to the digital servitization literature by demonstrating that industrial services shift from customized and co-created to mainly standardized-provided and informating when they are digitalized. These insights can assist managers of servitized manufacturing firms who wish to utilize digital technologies in their service provision.

  The identification of business model typologies of servitised firms is part of a long research tradition. However, the relevance of many existing typologies in the contemporary context, in which digitalisation is central to business model innovation, may be questioned. Thus, in this chapter, we revisit the existing literature and continue the conceptual discussion about the categorisation of product-service system business models. We propose a conceptual product-service system business model framework with three independent continuums: the degrees of ownership retention, results-orientedness and smartness. Based on this framework, we derive a new product-service system business model typology with eight categories that extends and bridges previous typologies in significant ways. The proposed framework is intended to serve as a sensitising concept for further research and the implementation of servitisation strategies in practice.

  A stream of servitisation research has focused on the construction of taxonomies and typologies of product–service system business models (BMs). However, their relevance in the context of increased utilisation of digital technologies may be questioned. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to empirically revisit the existing product–service system BM taxonomies to explore the following research question: How can the BMs of servitised manufacturing firms be categorised in the digital era? The question is addressed through an embedded case study of five servitised firms. We found that the firms’ BMs varied with regard to the degree of the suppliers’ ownership of delivered products, degree of smartness of the services provided and degree of performance orientation of contracts. Based on these findings, we derived a new product–service system BM taxonomy with eight categories, presented in a 2 × 2 × 2 matrix, that significantly extends earlier taxonomies.

  A stream of servitization research has focused on identifying typologies of product-service system business models. However, their relevance may be questioned in a context with increased utilization of digital technologies. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to empirically revisit existing product-service system business model typologies by raising the following research question: How can business models of servitized manufacturing firms be categorized in the digital era? This question is addressed through a qualitative multiple case study of five servitized firms. Data was collected through semi structured in-depth interviews with a total of 66 key-employees, and through participation in 26 workshops and discussion meetings with the firms. Based on our empirical findings we derived a new product-service system business model typology with 8 different categories presented in a 2x2x2 matrix.

  Most research on the management of innovation processes has focused on either new product development or new service development, while the development of new integrated product-service systems has received limited attention. This paper addresses this literature gap by exploring qualitatively how new integrated product-service systems are developed in five firms. The findings demonstrated that there is not one specific process that is implemented and used in all new product-service system development initiatives. Instead the characteristics and the management of the new productservice system development processes were found to be contingent upon both the type of services (smart digital services vs. traditional services) and the business model (product-oriented services vs. result-oriented services). These findings provide considerable guidance to managers searching for ways to manage the processes of developing new product-service systems. Further research is needed to verify if the same contingencies are found in other types of organization
