Areas of responsibility

Ellen K. Nyhus is a professor in Marketing at the University of Agder (UiA) School of Business and Law in Norway. She is Dr. Oecon from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH). She also completed the four year programme in economics and business administration consisting of three years at bachelor/undergraduate level and one year at master/graduate level (siviløkonom) as well as the Graduate Programme in Economics and Business Administration (Høyere avdeling) at NHH.

Nyhus’ research is interdisciplinary and her work has appeared in international journals such as the Journal of Economic Psychology,  Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Consumer Policy, The British Journal of Psychology, the European Journal of Psychology, Economics of Education Review, and Applied Economics. She has also contributed with chapters in international handbooks in behavioural economics and economic psychology. In addition to the academic work, Nyhus has long experience as a board or committee member both in the private and public sector. Currently she serves is a board member of Søgne og Greipstad savings bank and of the Finance Industry Authorisation schemes. She is also an alternate member of the board of the pension fund of Kristiansand municipality. In the period 2014-2016 she served as president for the International Association for Research in Economic Psychology (IAREP), and she is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Economic Psychology. In 2022 she organised the annual IAREP-conference in Kristiansand.

Nyhus has actively popularized her research and she is frequently a speaker at conferences in the financial industry both in Norway and abroad. She is a popular media commentator on topics related to consumer behaviour and has written several popularized articles in regional and national newspaper. She is responsible for the personal finance section of the Great Norwegian encyclopedia (SNL).
