Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should
have fundamental knowledge on 5th generation (5G) and beyond mobile networks and Internet of things (IoT) technologies.
be aware of the state-of-the-art development in beyond 5G and IoT systems and identify a specific research topic within the scope of 5G and IoT systems.
perform preliminary solution design and validation through theoretical analysis or practical implements.
Course contents
The course is organized as a semester project. The topic will be selected from the ongoing or planned research activities within the Department of ICT, or in cooperation with industry, within the areas of beyond 5G and massive IoT.
The topic can be selected from but not restricted to the following list:
enhanced broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC), and massive machine-type communications (mMTC).
massive IoT and low power wide area networks (LPWANs).
WiFi6 and WiFi7.
Teaching methods
No ordinary lecture will be given but teaching activities will be carried out through guided reading, regular tutoring, and group supervision. Students are expected to perform self-study of recommended papers, scenario or problem identification, solution design and analysis, as well as validation via simulations or implementation. The project can be done individually or in a small group of two students.
The workload for the average student is approximately 200 hours.
Assessment methods and criteria
A technical report based on the obtained results needs to be submitted. Graded portfolio assessment, individually or in a group, based on the submitted report. Groups are given joint grades. Information about the content of the portfolio will be given in Canvas by the start of the semester.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
