Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student has
an understanding of the morphological analysis of English words and of morphological terminology.

Course contents
The course will introduce students to the linguistic structure of English words. The introductory part of the course is concerned with the basic terms and concepts in morphological analysis. The inflectional morphology and derivational morphology of present-day English will be introduced, and we will consider the relationship of morphology to both phonology and semantics. In addition, the sources of English vocabulary will be studied, especially the influence of Germanic and Romance languages. Finally, we consider the role of morphology in the perception and production of language.
Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars. Students will complete relevant exercises in the seminar sessions. The workload is estimated to 270 hours.
Examination requirements
Two midterm tests must be assessed as a pass.

4-hour written examination. No examination support material is allowed. Graded assessment.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1
