On completion of the course, the student can
accurately identify lexical categories
analyse phrases into their component structural and functional elements
analyse clauses into their component structural and functional elements
link grammatical phenomena with the appropriate linguistic terminology
The aim of the course is to provide students with an understanding of English grammar. The course takes a descriptive rather than prescriptive approach to the grammatical structure of the English language. Students are introduced to different lexical classes and key aspects of phrase and clause structure and function.
Lectures and seminars. Regular and active student participation. Practice for the teacher-training students. The workload is estimated to be 270 hours.
Vilkår for å gå opp til eksamen
Two midterm tests must be assessed as a pass.
For the teacher-training students practice and 1 midterm test must be assessed a pass.
All students must have 80% compulsory attendance in seminars.
4-hour written examination. No examination support material is allowed. Graded assessment.
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
