Speaking with one voice at last? The making of the EU’s strategy vis-à-vis Central Asia

A research project about EU drafting their new strategy towards Central Asia.

I have this fall been working as a research assistant on a project concerning EU drafting its new strategy towards Central Asia. The project focuses on EU foreign policy towards the region of Central Asia, and how the drafting of EU's new strategy have involved the different member states present in the region.

My contribution to the project has been to set up, conduct and transcribe interviews of EU member states embassy and EU delegation representatives in Astana, Kazakhstan and in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The interview guide was made in collaboration with project leaders. Conducting the interviews and transcribing them I did on my own.

Working on this project has been very rewarding, as I specialize in European integration and are interested in learning more about EUs foreign policy. I have also grown academically by working on these interviews, especially since this was my first time conducting expert interviews. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this project, and highly recommend other students to apply to part of student research project that are relevant to their studies.
