Jeg har gennem mere end 20 år forsket i børns relationer og hverdagsliv, pædagogisk arbejde især i barnehager, minoritetsbørn- og forældres forhold til daginstitutioner, og børneinstitutionernes materielle og kulturelle former og værdier. En særlig interesse angår pedagogiske institutioners samfundsmæssige rolle i forhold til civiliseringsprocesser. Jeg har også beskæftiget mig med tværkulturelle studier af børns opvækst og samspil, og med familierelationer - specielt søskenderelationer. Aktuelt arbejder jeg på et projekt om opdragelsesværdier, opvæksbetingelser og unges uddannelsesstrategier i et mindre mindre bysamfund i et landdistrikt. i Danmark.
