Daniel Nordgård er professor i music business and management og forfatter av boken "The Music Business and Digital Impacts" (2018). Nordgårds forskning og publikasjoner fokuserer på å forstå musikkbransjens digitale endringer bedre, med spesielt fokus på tre temaer: (1) strukturelle endringer i musikkbransjen, (2) musikkstrømming og digital bærekraft, og (3) musikkpolitikk. Han har en bred bakgrunn innen musikk, først og fremst som musiker og artist, men han har også erfaring fra konsertarrangering og festivalledelse. Nordgård underviser i musikkbransje og -ledelse ved Universitetet i Agder og Sibelius-akademiet i Helsinki, Finland.

Nordgård er direktør for CreaTeME, UiAs nye Center for Excellence in Creative use of Technology in Music Education. Han sitter i styret for International Music Business Research Association (IMBRA) og er medlem av styret til International Journal of Music Business Research. Nordgård blir regelmessig invitert som gjesteforeleser på musikkbransjekonferanser og akademiske konferanser nasjonalt og internasjonalt, og brukes jevnlig som ekspert av politikere og lovgivere.

Pågående forskningsprosjekter

MusicDNA Sustainable Eco system (MuSEc) – 2020-2024

Forsknings- og innovasjonsprosjekt, støttet av Norges forskningsråd

Hovedmålet er å utvikle verktøy for nøyaktig, energieffektiv og interoperabel bruksovervåkning, for å etablere et økosystem som sikrer rettighetshaverne i musikkbransjen en rettferdig og transparent godtgjørelse, ved å:

a) Tilby en ordning for nye, internasjonalt anerkjente ID-er for verk og opptak, forbedre registreringsprosessen ved hjelp av lydavtrykk og bygge opp en ny database for rettighetshavere.

b) Utvikle avanserte og energieffektive algoritmer for lydavtrykk og utvide dem med kildeutskillelsesteknologier, samt utvikle en avansert retrospektiv strømanalyse for gjenkjennelse og dokumentasjon av tidligere spilling og lokalisering / merking av ukjent innhold.

c) Konseptualisere en ny forretningsmodell med godtgjørelse basert på de nevnte verktøyene.

Crowdfunding i kultursektoren: Aksept, effekter og implikasjoner   (CROWDCUL) - 2020-2024

Forskningsprosjekt, støttet av Norges forskningsråd

Hovedmålet med forskningsprosjektet er å utforske crowdfunding som en kanal for finansiering av kulturelle produksjoner. Følgende forskningsmål vil bli adressert: Først ønsker vi å analysere faktorene som påvirker bruken av crowdfunding blant kunstnere, det vil si hva som motiverer og hindrer kunstnere i å bruke crowdfunding for å finansiere prosjektene sine. Videre vil vi undersøke kort- og langsiktige effekter av crowdfunding på kunstnernes økonomi, omdømme og estetiske praksiser. Til slutt vil vi se på implikasjonene av crowdfunding på sektornivå, med fokus på både tradisjonelle finansieringsmekanismer og kunstnernes estetiske praksiser generelt.
