In this dissertation, Erik Lankut begins his research journey by exploring and investigating how cultural intelligence (CQ for short) works across the business and management field, but also taking a closer at the role of cultural intelligence with leadership emergence.
Cultural intelligence (or CQ) is a concept that originally comes from the field of psychology.
More recently, business and management scholars have started to explore the role of cultural intelligence with outcomes such as performance at work, skills to negotiate, managing work assignments abroad (such as expatriates), or being a global leader.
Erik began to look at the history of cultural intelligence in the business and management literature, only to discover that there are more concepts also being used to explore the same type of outcomes.
From this discovery, Erik was able to explore potential overlaps with cultural intelligence while gaining further insights as to what the scholars know and do not know. From there, Erik decided to focus his dissertation on the role of cultural intelligence with leadership emergence.
In total, three research papers were written:
Together, the three studies provide findings that can help both scholars and practitioners further understand the role of cultural intelligence and its effects on different more outcomes.
Ultimately, this research brings new evidence and implications for theory and practice by reconsidering the role of cultural intelligence with leadership emergence.
