Specialization for Mathematics
Mathematics education covers issues related to the teaching of mathematics and prepares students to become mathematics teachers; pure mathematics delves deeper into advanced concepts and methods. The specialisation also qualify students for lectureships after completing practical pedagogical education (PPU), as well as for PhD studies.
The University of Agder has a strong team of experts in mathematics, and the National Centre of Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (MatRIC) is situated at UiA.
The research center Mathematics Education Research Group av Agder (MERGA) at the Department for Mathematical Sciences is one of the priority research centers at UiA. MERGA seeks to explore and understand in depth issues of teaching and learning mathematics in many settings.
