International Business is a course designed for managers and other professionals working in international business or in businesses with the intention of serving foreign markets.

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and skills in the following areas of International Business:

  • General introduction to international business, international environments, internationalisation and globalisation
  • Theories and institutions for trade and investment and financial environment
  • Strategy, structure and implementation of business plans
  • The organisation of international business and managing international operations
  • Bridging theory and practice, and produce a hands-on internationalization plan

Learning Outcomes

A candidate who has successfully completed this course should have the following learning outcome defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:


  • Be competent in using terminology of the field
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the most important foundations for doing international business, both in terms of formal and informal institutions
  • Have knowledge of globalization trends and effects from global integration
  • Have knowledge about different strategies connected to international business
  • Understand the international competitive dynamics and how to develop global strategies
  • Have particular knowledge of multinational corporations and how these are governed


  • Be an active and interesting discussant for international business actors
  • Be able to analyse problems within international business by using relevant models
  • Be able to communicate and explain fundamental prerequisites for internationalization

General competence

  • Be able to view the topics of this course in a larger business/economic professional perspective
  • Be able to view the topics of this course in a larger social context
  • Be able acquire updated knowledge within the above mentioned areas of knowledge and skills

Course structure

The course consists of three two-days sessions supplemented by online information (Fronter);

  • First and third session: lectures, cases and exercises (UiA, Kristiansand)
  • Second session: lectures, cases and exercises, student exchange (London)

Admission requirements

The applicant must hold a three-year bachelor's degree (of minimum 180 ECTS credits) and must have two years of relevant work experience after graduation.

Practical information

The course is offered as an executive contracted course aimed at innovation and technology-based businesses in the public and private sector. Please feel free to contact us for further information and a price estimate for the course.  In addition to a course fee, there is a statutory semester fee to the student organization (Studentsamskipnaden) as well as expenses for required reading.

Part-time course

The course is a part- time course that consists of three two-days sessions, including a two-day session in London. Professors from prominent British universities will contribute as lecturers in the session in London.

The admission requirement for the course is a completed bachelor’s degree or equivalent education consisting of at least 180 ECTS and a minimum of two years relevant work experience after the completion of the education. Applicants that do not meet the admission requirements may apply for participation on the course, but will not have access to a final exam and ECTS.
