If you come from a non-EU/ EEA country you need a visa/or a residence permit. You are advised to contact the Norwegian Embassy or Consulate General in your home country for information on procedures or check the webpage of the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration. For the visa/or a residence permit you need the admission letter from the University of Agder. There is a fee connected to the visa process.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are a citizen of one of the countries on this list you can apply for visa (as soon as possible) after your arrival to Norway. If your nationality is not on the list, you need to apply for visa to Norway from your home country.
How to apply
Register an application for a student residence permit online. Please note that you should not name a reference person in your online application as this will delay the process. Applicants who cannot register their application online must fill in the application form for a first-time residence permit and apply through the nearest Norwegian Embassy/Consulate in the country of residence. Once in Norway you are required to go to the local immigration office within 7 days of arrival. More information about the procedure will be given during orientation.
Residence Card
Non-EU/EEA students who have applied for a residence permit from their home country: Before you leave your home country, please book an appointment with the Norwegian police to be issued your residence card. More information here.
Please note that the International Education Office cannot answer any questions connected to the visa process. Please contact your nearest Norwegian embassy or Consulate General.
Students from EU/EEA countries
EU/EEA students do not have to apply for a residence permit, but do have to register with the Police if staying in Norway for more than 3 months. Please register and book an appointment online. Please note that you should not name a reference person in your online application as this will delay the process. If you are in doubt regarding the registration process, you are advised to contact the nearest Norwegian Embassy/Consulate or check the webpage of the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI)
