How to apply – exchange students

Before you can fill in your exchange application in our online ApplicationWeb ("Søknadsweb"), you must have been selected for exchange and nominated by the international coordinator at your home institution.

Once you have been nominated by your home university, you will receive two emails:

1. Instructions on how to apply
2. Password for the ApplicationWeb

Click the link you have received to enter ApplicationWeb, and:

1. Select English language in the top menu
2. Choose «International Applicant»
3. Log in with your email address and the password you received by email
4. If you forget your password, you can order a new one by entering your email address and click on "send me a new password"

On this page you must:

1. Enter your complete home address in your home country. This must include street name, house number, postal code and area name.
2. Enter your phone number with no space in between the numbers. Do not forget to add the country code (for example +47). 
3. Enter your full name in this format (first name, last name): Paul Smith. Do not use only capital letters.

The following three questions are aimed at full degree applicants, but you need to reply to continue:

• Do you apply with non-formal competence? - Choose NO
• Use of electronic diploma(s) from secondary education -  Choose NO
• Exchange of exam results with other institutions - Choose NO

Click "Next" to save and continue.

Step 1: Choose Campus ("Choose application alternative").

Campus Kristiansand offers the following fields of study:

Campus Grimstad offers the following fields of study:

• Engineering
• ICT

Summer School students must choose "Campus Kristiansand - Summer"

Step 2: Apply for courses ("Choices for this alternative").

• Consult our course overview and discuss your choices with your home coordinator.
• Enter the courses you wish to take during your exchange stay at UiA 
• Remember to prioritize your selected courses
• We recommend applying for some extra courses, in case you should experience timetable clashes or you should not be qualified for a certain course.

Please note that the teaching semester is written at the end of each course name.

One full semester consists of 30 ECTS credits. If you are planning to write your Bachelor/Master Thesis you must still enroll in and take courses worth a minimum of 20 ECTS. We do not offer thesis supervisors.

All applicants must upload: 

• All documents in English or a Scandinavian Language, and fully legible. Documents in other languages, or incomplete/illegible applications will not be considered. It is your responsibility to provide us with the required documents by the deadline. 
• Transcript of records (ToR) for all completed higher education courses/units. For master students, you must upload the Transcript of Records from both your bachelor and master.
• List of courses you are currently enrolled in/taking this semester at your home institution. The list must include course code, course name and ECTS. Please note that the list must be validated by your home institution (for example an official document, or a self-made document that is signed and stamped by your home institution) 

Please label the documents with your first and last name, i.e. "John Smith, Transcript of Records". The documents must be uploaded as PDF or jpg file.

For Non-EU/EEA Nationals:

• Confirmation of sufficient funds:

The amount is based on living expenses and is adjusted yearly: 

• • Autumn 2023: NOK 62 685
  • Spring 2024: NOK 75 222
  • Two semesters or more: NOK 137 907
• The student must document sufficient funding to finance their stay in Norway, either with
  • Bank statement in the students name which shows sufficient funding (in any currency as long as it is equivalent to the amount listed below) or
  • Letter/confirmation that you will receive a scholarship/ grant / student loan, or
  • Letter from parents where they confirm the relationship with the student and that they will support your stay in Norway financially, together with a bank statement in parents name

Courses Requiring Additional Documentation:

• FRI109 + FRI111 "Outdoor Education": Letter of motivation (approx. 300 words)
• TFL903 "NORSEC": Certificate of good conduct issued by the police (This is mandatory for participation in school practice or school visits). Please note that the certificate should not be more than three months old. 
• PED221 + PED237 "Comparative Education": Certificate of good conduct issued by the police (This is mandatory for participation in school practice or school visits). Please note that the certificate should not be more than three months old. 
• Practical Placement in Health and Social Sciences: Certificate of good conduct issued by the police (This is mandatory for participation in school practice or school visits). Please note that the certificate should not be more than three months old. 
• NO-169 Norwegian for International Students, Intermediate level 2: Documentation that you qualify for an intermediate level (Transcript of previous Norwegian Courses or personal letter explaining the basis of your Norwegian language level)
• Music students: 
  • If you are applying for performance-base courses at the Department of Classical Music and Music Education, you are required to send recording of a performance with your main instrument (sound file). Please send the files to linn.eriksen@uia.no. Remember to mark the files with your full name.
  • If you are applying for performance-based courses at the Department of Popular Music, you are required to send a motivation letter and attend a mandatory interview. Please see more information on this page. Remember to upload the motivation letter to your ApplicationWeb.

Changes to your application

You can make changes to your application (if needed) or upload additional documents until the application deadline 1 May (Autumn Semester) / 17 October (Spring Semester)

Normally all nominated exchange students are accepted for studies at UiA. You will receive your Letter of Acceptance around one month after the deadline for applications, together with information about semester start and instructions on how to apply for accommodation. 

To be included in the early admission in April, make sure you complete your application and submit all your documents by 1 April.

You must complete your Online Learning Agreement (OLA) after you have been accepted as a student at UiA and we have published the courses you have been admitted to your ApplicationWeb. All Erasmus+ exchange students coming to UiA must use OLA. 

Student housing in Kristiansand and Grimstad is offered by The Student Association of Agder (SiA).

You can only apply for accommodation after you have received your Letter of acceptance. Together with your letter of acceptance, you will receive a reservation code and details on how to apply for your accommodation. Please do not apply for housing before receiving this information.

Exchange students from outside EU/EEA who are spending a minimum of one semester at the University of Agder are guaranteed student housing in shared or single rooms.

To come to UiA as an exchange student, your home university must have a formal agreement for exchange studies with UiA. Check with the International Office at your university (either the central office or at your faculty/department) to see if there is an agreement with UiA and if you are eligible to go on an exchange.  Your International Office can also explain what subject areas you can study as an exchange student, as defined through the particular exchange agreement in place with The University of Agder. UiA does not accept freemovers. Without an agreement in place, we can not accept your application.
