Do you meet the admission requirements?
You need to have completed a bachelors degree, or equivalent, of 180 ECTS within the social sciences in order to be qualified. Examples of relevant fields are political science, sociology, international relations, public administration, business administration etc.
Check the required length of study depending on which country you come from (three to five years of higher education) and which education documents are required in the Country list.
There are certain documentation requirements, such as verification reports, for applicants from some countries. See if this applies to you in the Country list.
Do you meet the English language requirements?
Non-native English speakers must document their English proficiency by completing and passing an English language test. Check if this applies to you here.
You must take one of the following tests (test scores more than two years old are invalid):
IELTS Academic - The British Council's International English Language Testing Service - minimum overall score of 6.0
TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language - minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based). We require that the test results are sent directly from the test centre. The TOEFL institution code for the University of Agder is 5433.
PTE Academic Pearson Test of English (PTE), minimum score of 62.
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), Proficiency (CPE) or First (FCE), with the result A.
140 hours of English from Norwegain Upper Secondary School (Videregående skole), written and oral exam.
You may be exempt from taking an English language test if you:
are a native English speaker from Canada, USA, New Zealand and Australia.
have education from the Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Macao, Malta, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, or South Africa and are exempted according to the Country list.
have a minimum of one year's university studies in academic subjects with English as the language of instruction in the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia.
have a minimum of one year of master's degree studies with English as the language of instruction in one of the Nordic countries.
have completed a bachelor's degree with English as the language of instruction in one of the Nordic countries.
have completed International Baccalaureate (IB) programme with English at Higher Level with the minimum score of 4.
Note that applicants from certain Asian and eastern European countries (for example Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Iran and more) with a bachelor's degree and/or a master's degree from their home country where the language of instruction has been English, are not exempt from the English language requirements.
The English language requirements are set by the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and the University Board at the University of Agder.

Applications to EISS must include:
Proof of English language proficiency
Final diploma and transcripts from higher education. Diploma supplement (if applicable). See if your transcript must be sent directly from your home institution and if you are required to submit verification reports in the Country list
High School/Secondary School diploma
Copy of passport
Documentation of name change, if applicable

Application deadline is 1 March. You may upload documents within five days after you have applied for admission. If you are completing your degree or if you are taking an English test in the spring semester, your deadline for submitting/uploading documents is 1 July.
UiA does not accept or cooperate with foreign recruiting agents.
Do not send documents by e-mail.
Upload all pages of diploma and transcripts, both front and back.
All documents must be translated (unless in English, Norwegian or a Scandinavian language). The translation should be carried out by a government authorized or official translator. You must upload a scanned version of the original document accompanied by the translation.
You will be able to register your application from February 1 - May 1.
Diffculties uploading documents?
Log in to your online application. Tick "My Documents" at the top of the page. You may upload documents within five days after you have applied for admission.
Receiving the results of your application
Applicants to EISS will receive an e-mail of acceptance or rejection by mid-April.
If you are offered admission, you will be given a short deadline to respond.
If your application was rejected, you may ask for the reason(s) of rejection by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org within three weeks after the announcement of the result. After receiving the reason(s) for rejection, you may appeal. The deadline for an appeal is three weeks after receiving reasons for rejection. The appeal must be written and directed to Klagenemda, University of Agder, Admissions Office, Post Box 422, 4604 Kristiansand, Norway. The appeal must be signed by you or by whom you give proxy. In the appeal you must state which decision(s) you are appealing, your reason for appealing, and your preferred outcome of the appeal.
