Upon completion of the course, the students will have:
Increased overview of central issues within thematically defined research fields
Strengthened ability to analyze key issues within these fields
Be able to formulate researchable questions and analyse them according to scientific methods of research
Acquired in-depth knowledge of various forms of scientific thinking
Strengthened understanding of ongoing debates in sociology
Be able to analyse critically various sources of information
Course contents
The course is divided into two thematic specializations (each of 5 credits). The two themes will vary from year to year. Examples of themes will be prison and substance use, knowledge and education, expertise, environment, gender, class, welfare, upbringing and multicultural societies. The course’s central aim is to give an expanded and strengthened understanding of two sociological themes.

Lectures and seminars. Information is posted on Canvas. Expected work volume is approximately 280 hours (2 x 140 hours).

Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
